How to answer "can I pay on delivery?" in Instagram DMs
By Ahmad, founder of PingMyLead
"Can I pay on delivery?" often means the customer is ready to order and wants to feel safe. A clear answer removes the last doubt. A vague one can end the chat. Here is how to answer "can I pay on delivery?" and other payment questions in your DMs.
Decide your payment options first
List the ways you accept payment: cash on delivery, bank transfer, a payment link or a local wallet app. Then decide when each one is allowed. For example, some shops ask for payment first on custom orders or for far areas. Write these rules next to your price list, so the answer never changes from one customer to the next.
Answer yes or no, then give the next step
Start with the answer. Then tell the customer exactly what happens next:
"Yes, you can pay on delivery. The total is [total], including [delivery cost] for delivery. Please send your name, phone number and address, and I will confirm your order."
If you do not offer it for that order, say what you do offer:
"Pay on delivery is not available for [area or item], but you can pay by [payment method]. I will send the details as soon as you confirm. Is that OK?"

Make paying first feel safe
When you ask for payment first, the customer takes a risk with a shop they may not know yet. Help them feel safe. Send the payment details in one message, with the exact total and the name on the account. Then send a short confirmation as soon as the money arrives:
"Thank you, [name]. We received [total]. Your [item] will arrive on [delivery day]."
Never ask a customer to send card numbers or passwords in a chat.
Answer the real worry behind the question
Sometimes "can I pay on delivery?" really means "can I trust you?" If the customer still hesitates, give proof instead of pressure. Offer a photo or short video of the exact item before you send it, share your pickup place if you have one, or point to customer posts that tag your shop. Then ask one simple question: "Would you like me to reserve it for you while you decide?"
