How to reply when a customer asks for a discount in your DMs

By Ahmad, founder of PingMyLead

"Can you do a better price?" comes up in almost every shop's DMs. A cold "no" can end the chat. A quick "yes" can teach customers to always ask. Here is a middle way to reply when a customer asks for a discount.

Thank them and stay warm

Start with a friendly line, for example "Thank you for asking 😊". The customer is still interested, or they would not ask.

Explain the value in one line

Say what makes the price fair: the quality, the material, or how carefully you pack each order. Keep it short.

Offer something other than a lower price

If you want to help, offer a small extra instead: free delivery, a small gift, or a bundle price for two items. You decide what you can afford.

Example: "Thank you for asking 😊 The price is fixed because [reason]. But if you take two pieces, I can do [bundle price] for both."

Keep your answer the same for everyone

Decide your discount rule once and use it every time. Write it in your price list, so anyone who helps you gives the same answer. Customers talk, and a fair rule protects trust.
